Day 1: Nairobi - Amboseli
Today we’ll start early – your skillful driver/guide from Vulture African Safaris will pick you up at 7:30 am from the comfort of your hotel or airport and begin our journey on the Nairobi/Mombasa Highway. As the day brightens, we’ll pass homesteads and Maasai herders along the way. At Amboseli, we’ll enjoy our first of game drives. You won’t have to look hard for the park’s signature landmark – renowned Mt. Kilimanjaro – the tallest peak in Africa. This great mountain range will frame all your views looking south making it a scenic backdrop for the wildlife we’ll encounter. You’ll see plenty of elephants, but you’ll also be looking for wildebeest, zebra, buffalo and gazelle. And there’s a good chance of spotting cheetah and lion. The park is not large, which only increases our chances of coming face to face with an exciting array of wildlife. Dinner will follow at your choice of lodge or safari camp. Get ready for another full day of game drives tomorrow. -
Day 2: A Full Day - Amboseli
We’ll be up early for our first game drive followed by breakfast. Then onto a mid-morning game drive. This will be our pattern for the day – eat, relax, go on a game drive - repeat. Not a bad way to appreciate the wonders of this rich and diverse park. And if you wish to be even more active – less relaxing time, more game drives – just ask your guide and he will make it happen. At Vulture African Safaris our goal to create the best safari experience for you. On your game drives through the park, you may notice a unique pyramid-shaped location – this is Observation Hill, the best elevation for vistas of Amboseli. At the summit, you’ll be able to take in the park’s plains, lakes and stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. This is an ideal place to watch the elephants, buffalo and hippo foraging in the marshes below. From here you’ll also enjoy the bright diversity of birdlife in the wetlands. Look for pelican, goose, kingfisher and egret. Our trip to Amboseli Park also provides an opportunity to meet some of the native people of the area. If you’d like you can take an optional visit to a local Masai village to learn about their lifestyle and culture. Just ask your guide. Overnight shall be at your safari lodge/ tented camp. -
Day 3: Amboseli – Emali Train Station - Train to Mombasa
More game viewing, as we head for the train station where we’ll catch our comfy train to the coast. We’ll enjoy an early safari breakfast and set out for a short final game drive as we exit park. We have seen much of this popular park, its diverse wildlife environments and a great display of animals. (Please note that an early short exit game viewing drive is only possible for guests staying in lodges / tented camps inside the park). As we exit the park areas on the way to the train station at Emali, you’ll be seeing your last views of Amboseli. However, on your upcoming train journey, you’ll be passing through both Tsavo West and Tsavo East for more park vistas and possibly wildlife viewing. Your driver/guide will bring you to the train station at Emali. There, he’ll assist you with tickets and transfer to the Madaraka Express, the train to Mombasa and the Kenyan coast. Your first-class ticket is included in the tour, so enjoy the comfort of your air-conditioned compartment and reclining seat. The train’s route is positioned higher than the roadway and offers an elevated view of the parks. And with its large windows you’ll enjoy wonderful vistas of the passing landscapes. There’s also a buffet car for drinks and snacks, and clean restrooms for your accessibility. In about 4 ½ hours you’ll arrive at the state-of-the-art train station in Mombasa. TRAIN SCHEDULE Later proceed to Emali train station (100km from Amboseli) where you shall board the standard gauge Nairobi-Mombasa Train. 09:31am: Depart for Mombasa on the Express Train with elevated country views through Tsavo West & Tsavo East national parks. 14:00pm: Arrive Mombasa train station where you shall be met by your transfer vehicle and driver. Transfer to your hotel or resort is also included – we’ll pick you up and bring you to your local hotel or resort in Malindi, Watamu, Diani, Mombasa and Kilifi beach.
