Day 1: Nairobi - Masai Mara National Park
We cover an approximate of 5 hrs. 7:30 am - Your Big 5 Africa Safaris driver/guide will come by your hotel or the airport and collect you in a private 4 x 4 safari Land Cruiser to begin this week-long African safari adventure. Let’s hit the road and head south to the great Masai Mara Park. We’ll make stops along the way to enjoy the views of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. We’ll be entering Maasai country so keep an eye out for local herders tending to their cattle. We should arrive at the park about lunchtime. We’ll freshen up at our accommodation and set out on our first game drive. The rolling hills and dramatic acacia trees will first greet us as we track for lions, leopards, cheetahs, and the over 95 different animal species that inhabit this very rich ecosystem. Toward evening, we’ll head back to our Mara safari lodge or tented camp to relax, enjoy dinner, and recap our first safari day. What you may see at Amboseli national park ……… Elephant, Cheetah, Buffalo, Giraffe, Zebra, Lion, Dik-dik, Lesser Kudu, Nocturnal porcupine and Prolific birdlife featuring 600 species. -
Day 2: Masai Mara Park – Full Day
We’ll be up early to see the morning bring the park alive with light and birdsong. This is a day of unlimited game drives. Just discuss your preferences with your guide safari – how much exploring and how much relaxation time you’d like. Your guide will want to take you to the Mara River for a picnic lunch and to see the hippos and crocodiles inhabiting this special border. During the season of the Great Migration (July – October), this is the crossing site where wildebeests and zebras by the thousands enter the park from the neighboring Serengeti. It’s an unforgettable spectacle as the multitudes of grazers flow into the Mara only to be met by the awaiting crocodiles, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and other predators. This is nature at its most raw and primal and can be a scene of unexpected drama. For another vantage point of this incredible display, we offer an optional early morning hot air balloon safari over the park. See the sunrise and the great display of wildlife below as you sail over the Mara – images that will be seared into your memory forever. And for a more down-to-earth cultural moment, take advantage of our optional visit to a local Maasai village. Meet the people, learn about their pastoral lifestyle, and pick up some of their colorful beaded handiwork. We’ll return to our Mara accommodation for dinner and relaxation. -
Day 3: Masai Mara – Serengeti
We expect to cover an approximate of 6 – 7 hrs. drive. Let’s get up early for the crossing into Tanzania and Serengeti National Park. We’ll head to the border town of Isebania and the crossing from Kenya into Tanzania. The Serengeti is part of the same ecosystem as the Masai Mara, but it is in these lands that the masses of wildlife are born and raised before trekking over into the Mara in search of taller grasses and more sources of life- sustaining water. The vast, almost treeless plains of the Serengeti are home to huge numbers of wildlife, not just the thousands of wildebeests and zebra but also great prides of lions and other big cats. As the afternoon wanes, we’ll make our way to our Serengeti accommodation for dinner and rest. -
Day 4: Full-Day at the Serengeti
Just like at the Mara, we’ve designed this safari for a full day exploring this magnificent park. Enjoy several morning and afternoon game drives. You can’t miss the uncountable wildebeests here and depending on the season, you may witness their birthing by the thousands. Later in the year, these animals flow to the Masai Mara, beginning the Great Migration. The Serengeti is home to perhaps the largest number of lions anywhere but we’ll also be tracking for cheetah, zebra, giraffe, gazelle, eland, impala, hippo, and the curious and downright amusing warthog. The vastness and rich displays of wildlife at the Serengeti never fail to impress. After a very full of animal watching, we’ll head back to our safari lodge or tented camp. -
Day 5: Serengeti – Ngorongoro
Approximately 3 – 4 hrs. drive. We’ll head out early for a full day traveling from one iconic ecosystem to another, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On the way, we’ll make a stop at Olduvai Gorge, the most noted anthropological site in the world. Here were discovered thousands of fossilized remnants of early man’s activity – an incredible record of tools and artifacts showing our evolution from millions of years ago. We’ll arrive at the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact volcanic caldera on the planet. Before us stretches an enclosed world of rich wildlife and protected habitats. Descending the crater wall in our 4 x 4 safari vehicle we’ll enter home to a thriving environment of big cats, elephants, rare black rhinos, and even dense birdlife, like pink flamingoes in the area’s marshlands. This is an unusual world of wildlife, segregated from the rest of Africa but thriving in its own self-contained ecosystem. We’ll enjoy lunch down here on the crater floor, with more game drives filling out our day. Toward evening, we’ll head up the volcano wall to enjoy a dazzling sunset at the crater’s rim. And then on to our Ngorongoro accommodation for dinner and rest. -
Day 6: Ngorongoro – Lake Manyara
An approximate 1.5 hrs. drive. If we arise early, we can be treated to a spectacular sunrise at the crater’s rim. And now we’re off to Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara is not a large park, but it is known for its beauty and of course, the lake itself. Color is a key element here – the blue of the lake contrasts with the thousands of feathery pink flamingoes dressing its shores. It’s as iconic a sight as any in Africa and certain to enchant. The park is also famous for its unusual tree-climbing lions, a fascinating evolutionary adaptation. Look for them overhead, resting or scanning for prey from their perch up in the trees. We’ll enjoy dinner here at our Lake Manyara safari lodge or tented camp. -
Day 7: Lake Manyara – Arusha – Nairobi/Zanzibar
We’ll cover an approximate of 2 ½ hrs. drive. This pretty park is even more serene and attractive in the early morning light. We’ll take another game drive to soak up the scenery, color, and perhaps some larger game like impala, gazelle, hippo, giraffe, and baboon. After arrival in Arusha, you choose to do the following: To be dropped off at your Arusha hotel. To be dropped off at the Arusha or Kilimanjaro airport To return to Nairobi in Kenya. Then we’re off to Arusha to wrap up our 7 – day African safari. From Arusha, you can return to Nairobi or proceed on to Zanzibar for an exotic African beach vacation. A full week filled with vast savannahs holding lions, leopards, and cheetahs… and an extinct volcano home to a rich assortment of wildlife. Plus, flamingoes by the thousands. Too many memories to sort through at once – it will take time to absorb everything you’ve seen. From all of us at Big 5 Africa Safaris, our deepest thanks for your time, trust, and interest in our glorious Kenya-Tanzania safari parks.

Day 7: Lake Manyara – Arusha – Nairobi/Zanzibar
We’ll cover an approximate of 2 ½ hrs. drive. This pretty park is even more serene and attractive in the early morning light.
